Wiring
Instructions for ADSL with Splitter
Analog Telephone Service (PSTN)
In case there are several telephone outlets (sockets) on the telephone line where
the ADSL modem will be connected, a special splitter needs to be installed between
the socket and the modem. In such a case there may be a need for home rewiring.
The rewiring is necessary when the modem will be installed in a socket other
than the first (primary) socket. Rewiring can be avoided if you have only one
or two sockets on the particular telephone line, in which case CYTA will provide
special distributed filters, together with the modem.
The purpose of rewiring is to create a home installation suitable to support,
parallel operation of telephony and ADSL connection. The figures below show schematically
how this is done. Figure 1 shows the existing wiring, where
an analog modem is placed next to the PC. If the modem and PC happen to be at
the primary socket, then no rewiring is necessary.
Figure 1

Figure 2 , shows the rewiring that needs to be done by the electrician,
whilst Figure 3 shows the final arrangement including the splitter
and the modem that will be installed by CYTA.

A qualified electrician with the proper certification by CYTA must perform the
rewiring. The electrician must access the existing wiring and recognize where
the primary socket is located. All new wiring must be done using at least Category
3 cable with twisted pairs. For normal operation of the telephones during the
time between the rewiring and the final installation of the modem and the splitter
( Figure 3 ), the electrician must temporarily connect the
new primary socket with the remaining network as shown in Figure 2 .
For this purpose a T-piece connector is used on the secondary socket. Continuity
is achieved via an external connection of the primary and secondary socket through
the T-piece. CYTA personnel will remove this temporary external connection when
the splitter is installed.
Digital Telephony Service (ISDN)
Figure 4 shows the wiring required for the installation of
the ADSL modem in the presence of ISDN network termination.
